A Fun, Busy October - Catch Up Time!

I haven't been able to keep up with this thing quite as much as I'd hoped. It's been a wild few weeks. Here's a quick recap:

Halloween started about 2 weeks before October 31st.  Tracy decked out her house in Halloween madness early for Ella's birthday party. Here's Ella and a few of her friends in front of the food area.

Maddox had a great time at the party and gained a special affection for her cousin Gage. She couldn't stop talking about him!

The next weekend was Tracy's annual bash...this year also celebrating her and Joe's 40th birthdays. It was a riot! I dressed as a witch and pat was a vampire, with a very freaky face.  But, look who won best costume! The prom king and queen.... awwww.  We were excited that the Wiggles made a showing and that guy in the gold, well surprised all of us :-).

The came Halloween. It was time to celebrate with the little ones! I hosted a playdate for all the little ones in our neighborhood. It was super cute.

We tried really hard to get all the kids to stand together...not so much luck.

Ellie came back in the evening to go trick or treating with us. Her and Maddox got so much candy!!!

A fun, bust October is over. Now time to stress about the holidays!

Fun at the Fair

We had a great time at the MD State Fair Sunday morning! Here are a couple of highlights...

The fishing game!

This is "Howie" her dinasour prize she is showing off as she is amazed by the huge ride in front of where she is standing.

Maddox had her face painted

These sheep were spoting some fancy robes!
Looking at pigs, I think.

The big slide with daddy.
She wasn't so thrilled at first but can't stop talking about it now!

The duck game...

And the backpack she won for playing the duck game. I know...

Petting baby animals...so cute!

A one-day old pig.

tiny, fluffy, yellow baby chicks. Awww.

My Little Artist

We didn't have a real eventful weekend...therefore I didn't keep my promise of a super mini-adventure recap. Sorry to keep you all on pins and needles. Haha! Maybe next weekend we'll have more time and better weather.

Anyway, I took Maddox to AC Moore yesterday to get some art supplies. We're making a present for Varlie but it's a secret so I'll show you that later. We did get a pack of eyeballs that Maddox just HAD to HAVE...we made people, fish, and what I can only describe as aliens of some sort.

Here's a little taste of her work. If you'd like to see it in person we're proudly displying it on the fridge.

Yep, I let her use a glue stick.

You may recognize the folks in the one below... it's "dad', "maddox" and "bizzle".

Here's a shot of the ocean early this afternoon in Nantucket, compliments of Tracy - awaiting the arrival of Hurricane Bill.

Yes! Kids Woot!

I discovered this site called "Woot!" awhile back and although I've never actually purchased anything from them I love the concept of selling one item per day. It's really kind of fun to check our their website on a daily basis and see what deal is sitting on the page. They offer everything from gadgets to flat screen televisions with colorful commentary and it is always only $5 flat shipping cost. Why didn't I think of this idea first?

Anyway, this morning I got an email from Woot!. They added a new page called Kids Woot! Fantastic! Even better! Now I have a new bookmark and maybe I'll actually purchase something from them.

Weekend Mini-Adventure

I'm going to have Mae all to myself for the next few weekends and so I've vowed to try something new with her every week. I am a little hesitant to try new things by myself with a 2 year old for fear she'll have a tantrum in the middle of our outing and I'll have to be "that" parent who has to drop everything and drag her kid out by an arm. This happens weekly in the grocery store, post office, Target, you name it. So, these adventures will be carefully planned and executed at the appropriate time of day :-).

Week 1 Mini-adventure: Oregon Ridge Nature Center

This nature center is a hidden gem in Hunt Valley. There was barely anyone there on a beautiful Saturday morning. I couldn't believe it! It has a nature library and tons of exhibits where you and your kids can learn about the local wildlife. Outside there are marked trails that you can hike by yourself or with a guide. They have a ton of programs available...just visit their website to see.

For our first trip to the Nature Center we just browsed the center & exhibits.

Then we took a short hike on the paved, handicap accessible trail. I know, not real rugged but a good start. Mae had her treasure pack ready to pick up berries, brightly colored leaves and twigs. We walked, but it would be perfect for a stroller too.

Her favorite part of the trip was visiting these two turkeys and a chicken that were on the property by the trail. She called them the "dancing chickens". Not sure why. I'm sure she is referring to an episode of Dora or something but she just LOVED these animals!

We finished our time there by checking out a cool bridge by the nature center that leads to numerous hiking paths. Mae dug in the dirt and I had a couple of good photo ops!

Our first weekend outing was a success and naptime ensued as soon as she hit the carseat. :-)

Fig Mamma's Debut

Welcome to my blog and my very first post! I am SAHM of a two year old girl and the co-proprietor of an online boutique. We have a lot of really wonderful, unique products in our store but I love finding deals all over the web so I can't wait to share them with you. I intend to use this blog as a forum to discuss whatever I please...not just as an advertising forum for my store; although I'm sure you'll hear about it once and awhile. I may get personal or political or maybe I'll just have a fun story to share! Whatever it may be, I'm sure it will cultivate into something great and I can't wait to see what happens. Enjoy the ride, I know I will!
